You want honesty? Alright, this is gonna be off-topic, but here we go. Red Dead Redemption has the base format of GTA. Open-world, etc, etc but it has very key differences. For one, you can be a good guy or a bad guy. Whether it is good, morally gray, or flat out tool GTA always had a set type of character for you to live by. In GTA IV it is slightly better, but that's because Niko Bellic isn't a tool. In RDR John Marston's charater is out for redemption, but the way you do this is somewhat up to you. While it won't effect the story, key stuff such as gifts, the ability to jack horses without police intervention, or on the criminal side having an entire street just clear up to avoid you gives a very distinct feel. Beyond that, you have challenges, hunting, the ability to buy safehouses, better gunplay, western atmopshere, and random events that can be anywhere from robberies, to a woman in need of help. Or is she? Plus the stranger missions. After that, the story gets close to perfection. Awesome story, and one of the flat out best this generation and perhaps all time in my opinion. Every character whether waky or straight arrow has depth and feeling to them. John Marston himself is very multi-layered. The story alone makes this worth the trouble, and the missions are far from the standard GTA-fare. Would I say RDR has similar functions to GTA? Indeed. Would I say RDR is really anything particularly like GTA? In a few areas. Would I say at the end of the day you get a unique and different experience out of RDR as opposed to GTA? Yes, RDR has a some similar pieces, but the puzzle itself is very different. |

Umm well... I'm not sure why we're talking about GTA and Red Dead but I'm looking forward to Max Payne. I think it has loads upon loads of potential that can be tapped by Rockstar. I hope it'll like Red Dead's storyline but the gameplay will be a huge slow-mo gunfight through the favelas of Brazil. Oh and Tanooki, I just thumbs downed your comment because you said you don't like Rockstar's games. Edited by Brady, Jul 31 2011, 09:24 PM.

It could have easily been titled GTA: Wild Wild West. |

Chaos: Thanks for taking the time for a synopsis. Going by what you said, the game sounds too GTA-ish for my tastes. The Brady: Ok cool, I get it. To me Rockstar's games are like brussel sprouts: there's room for them in the world, just not on my plate. I will now leave this thread alone. |

RDR is much more linear than GTA, which is a good thing in my opinion. GTA IV had WAY too much shit going on at any given time for me to follow. As a result, i just would wqnder around the city and eventually lose interest in the game. |

Not as much as you'd think. The way the game plays out is similar (you'll still be going to talk to people to start missions), but other than that it's pretty unique. While GTA is mostly action, RDR starts at a much slower pace and tells a amazing story. |

How does that comparison even work? They make completely different games targeted towards completely different crowds. |
